Hike with Cascadia!

Community members explore the proposed Devil's Staircase Wilderness. Photo by Tim Giraudier.

We intermittently schedule public hikes into forests that we are working to protect.  Our hikes are exciting opportunities to experience old growth forests, learn about Cascadia's backyard ecosystems and visit threatened public lands with experienced hike leaders. Hikes range in difficulty and duration, so check out the details before deciding if the hike is right for you. All of our public hikes are FREE and carpools are arranged in advance.

Want to schedule a hike for a private group such as a club, organization or grade school class? Contact our Grassroots Organizer at sam(at)cascwild.org.

Upcoming Hikes:

Sunday, February 25th: Hike the Quartz Timber Sale: The Quartz Timber sale is an 847-acre logging project set to take place in the Umpqua National Forest. The timber sale proposes to commercially log and burn this older forest in the Cottage Grove Ranger District. We believe that insufficient consideration was given to the presence of imperiled spotted owls and red tree voles, both species dependent on older forests to survive, and that this sale is therefore an irresponsible and ill-concieved project.  Join hike leader Reed Wilson of NEST (Northwest Ecosystem Survey Team) on a day of exploration in this incredible place and see for yourself why we think its worth saving! Carpools will leave at 9am from the Cascadia Wildlands office and return at 4pm. Additional carpools are leaving from Cottage Grove. The hike is several miles and moderately difficult off-trail terrain.  Sign up to hike the Quartz here. Registration Closes Feb 22nd.
