Alaska artist Jen-Ann Kirchmeier finds inspiration in the Lost Coast forests, and is using sales of her work to support the restoration project.

Alaska artist Jen-Ann Kirchmeier knows the Lost Coast forest intimately, having lived fifteen years in a remote wilderness cabin near Cape Yakataga.

An accomplished artist, Jen-Ann beautifully expresses the moods and magic of the forest in her paintings. Her work captures the life of the forest, because she herself is present, and listening to the land.

“Within the complete and natural forest,” she says, “there is a feeling of a living presence, a living entity, with moods and awareness. These forest paintings of the Lost Coast forests have everything to do with portraying the aspects of the soul of the forest– the moods, the joy, the synergy, dynamics, and always, the spirit within.”

The lost coast restoration project began last winter with Jen-Ann's painting “Solstice.” Currently on display at Orca Adventure Lodge in Cordova, Solstice captures the “dark time” for her beloved Cape Yakataga forests.

As a logger’s daughter, Jen-Ann Knows that forestry, done right, can be sustainable and cooperative. Disgusted by the reckless clearcutting, and export of the logs to Asia, Jen-Ann set out to use her art to help turn things around on the Lost Coast.

Jen-Ann is determined to give back to the land, using her artwork to support wildland restoration by building awareness, education, and raising money.

Sales of every one of the Lost Coast forest series of paintings support restoration, financially and emotionally. Purchase work online at the Art Exchange, and help us restore this special place.
