Endangered Species Day ⭐️ SPOTLIGHT ⭐️ Mar Endangered Species Day ⭐️ SPOTLIGHT ⭐️ Marbled Murrelet (Brachyramphus marmoratus): is a small, robin-sized seabird that feeds on fish and marine invertebrates. It spends the majority of its life at sea, but depends on mature, old-growth forests to nest in.

MAMU Facts 🐧
▪️ lays a single egg in a nest of moss and lichen on large branches — because of the big branches they need, survival depends on expansive areas of old-growth forests (150yrs & older)
▪️ 28 days after hatching, fledglings fly directly from the nest to the ocean
▪️ SIZE: small, dove or robin-sized member of the auk family (along with puffins), males and females similar in appearance and size
▪️ COLOR: breeding season — dark brown to blackish upperparts, white belly and throat, mottled pattern; winter season — gray upperparts, dark marks on the sides, white ring around the eye.
▪️ LIFE CYCLE: average 15 year lifespan; 2-3 years to reach breeding maturity
▪️ DIET: fish and small krill, foraged below the water surface
▪️ RANGE: historic range includes Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington
