“NW Natural is running full page ads in [The Register-Guard] co-opting the word “choice” while half of our country’s population is facing the impending loss of a fundamental constitutional right. The company, like others wedded to climate-destroying fossil fuels, knows that the future is bleak for its dangerous product, so it is behaving like the dying industry it is by employing increasingly desperate rhetoric.” — Bethany Cotton, Conservation Director for Cascadia Wildlands opines in the recent Register-Guard#JustTransition #FossilFreeEugene #ClimateCantWait📸 Avery Temple with the Fossil Free Eugene campaign speaks to fellow protesters during a rally in front of the NW Natural offices in Eugene March 19, 2021 (by Chris Pietsch/The Register-Guard). ... We and our allies @welc_org and @oregonwild filed We and our allies @welc_org and @oregonwild filed suit to stop one of the biggest proposed logging projects in Oregon in decades! The Bureau of Land Management wants to log in public forests set aside for imperiled owls and salmon. We're not going to let it happen.

⭐️ Nick Cady, our Legal Director since 2011.

⭐️ Martha Brinson, our Membership & Operations Manager since Spring 2020.

Nick: Nick grew up in St. Louis, playing in the rivers of the Missouri Ozarks. He attended Truman State University where he received degrees in political and environmental science. Nick then traveled west to attend law school at the University of Oregon. When he is not litigating over irresponsible land management and protections for imperiled species, he can be found paddling, howling at the moon, or playing soccer.

Martha: Martha spent most of her childhood in Wisconsin ice skating in the winter and swimming in Lake Michigan in the summer. She eventually landed in Florida where she enjoyed going to the beaches and riding her motorcycle. Her soul was hungry for wild places and cooler weather, so she headed west to Oregon and became a volunteer with Cascadia Wildlands and a Master Gardener. When she’s not being an office nerd running reports and researching, you can find her hiking in the forest, bird watching and stomping around in the garden talking to plants!

In a legal victory, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Ser In a legal victory, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agreed today to reconsider whether red tree voles on Oregon’s North Coast need protection under the Endangered Species Act. The Service has until January 31, 2024, to make a decision.

LINK in Bio ➡️ for full press release.

As one of very few mammals that can subsist entirely on conifer needles, tree voles rarely venture from the treetops to the ground, making them exceedingly vulnerable to logging and forest fragmentation.
